Congratulations to Barbara on gaining LRPS distinction

The Royal Photographic Society, founded in 1853, is the most prestigious international photographic society. It has long been recognised for the promotion and maintenance of high photographic standards around the world and has established itself worldwide through its programme of touring exhibitions, events and special interest groups.

The awarding of distinctions is fundamental to the Society's promotion of standards of excellence, universally respected by amateur and professional photographers alike to whom RPS membership is open. In order to gain a Distinction, a photographer has to submit a portfolio for approval by a highly qualified panel of Fellows of the Society, or hold one of the accepted qualifications.

Mrs Barbara Clifford has been successful in satisfying the assessors and will be receiving a certificate from the president of the Society enabling her to use the letters LRPS after her name.

Goodbye Norma & Paul

Due to the recent weather conditions working against us, we couldn't give Norma & Paul the send off they deserve! We wish them all the best in their new home...

Hi All,
Paul and I will be moving to the Isle of Wight next week - weather, solicitors and removals men permitting! I'm sorry it hasn't been possible for Paul and I to come to the club to say goodbye in person, so this will have to suffice.

Thank you very much for the lovely roses and rather nice bottle of wine, which I am sure we will enjoy drinking in our new home.

It has been wonderful to be the Chairman over the last few months, I'm so pleased with the way the club has developed, but I don't feel I can take any of the credit.

The two groups in the Community Centre Hall couldn't have been set up if Colin Grant hadn't found out about that hall being available free, or without Barbara doing all the hard work of actually running the Digital Workshops, and the Studio Group wouldn't have come into being without Carl Batson's enthusiasm and expertise. I thank them and hope these groups continue to flourish.

The Young Photographer of the Year Competition was Cat's idea, and it was so lovely to have the young, very talented, people with us at our Christmas Social. It was also a pleasure to help Marion Birch with the Parish Council Print Competition, and I was very proud to find that two of our members were among the winners.

I would like to thank the Committee for all their help and support over the last few months, and to hand you over to the very capable hands of the new Chairman, Mr Jonathan Boshoff.

A redesigned website and a highly informative Handbook, thanks to Jo and Cat, have helped us to welcome new members, and to inform them of what goes on, so a big thank you to them.

But you haven't seen that last of us, Paul will be popping in from time to time, as he continues to work until for a few more months, and I may even make a surprise appearance myself.

Until then, I wish you all the very best of luck (except Barbara who doesn't need any!) with the rest of the season.
